I've been reading up a lot about spiritual things and I have just started going to yoga last week and she did a prayer with the gayatri and asked if any of us were interested. I was so she gave me a print out on the words but it didn't have the prnounciation so I was confused haha. Also talked about what it meant. I've just really been getting in to different spiritual things. I also came across mantra's in my studies of Astral projection. Its a lot of fun and I enjoy it.

I was just wondering if you could give a written guide as to how to pronounce the Gatatri mantra I have been trying to figure it out online but people say it differently and I'm not exactly sure how to pronounce it. Thank you!
mmm, okay i’m not sure how good this will be, but i’ll break it down for you to make it easier to say…..it might be a little difficult if you’re not a hindi speaker, but i’ll try and help you out as much as i can through words and not my actual voice….
Okay, so the first line is
Om Bhur Bhuvah Svah
So if we break down each word-
Om- Oh-mm
Bhur- Boo- *and almost make a d sound, but then make a small r sound. So it should sound like Boooor, but not such a hard R sound.*
Bhuvah- Boo-vah *so same beginning as bhur, but end in v-ah*
Svah- this kind of sounds like Swah-vah, but said quickly it’s more like Swah-hah
Then it goes
Tat Savitur Varenyam
break down:
tat- like you’re saying the beginning of TATTOO so just TAT.
Savitur- pretty much just like it looks Sahv-E-toor
Varenyam- Var- *like jar* een (like the end of clean -ean)-yam (but not like yams, the thanksgiving dish, it’s not such a nasaly a it’s more like a mixture between that and yum)
Then it goes
Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi
Break down:
Bhargo: okay, so this is a toughie, in hindi, we have not so hard consonants…I know i keep saying hard and soft and that just means not to speak them with such sternness, if that makes sense….so it’s a soft b and it’s just Bar except it’s a soft r so it’s like that d thing i said for bhur…..it’s like you’re going to say bah and then make a d, but you say r……and then you say a little “ih” before the go which is just go. So all together…..Bahr-ih-go.
Devasya- this word, in the mantra kind of meshes with the other word, so it’ll sound like Dayv (the best way to hear the pronunciation of that word is if you know the name Dev….like the way indians say the name Dev is exactly how you should pronounce that.) so Dayv-ah-sya and the sya is said so fast that it looks just like it’s said but it goes right into Dhimahi so it’s more like sya-dee
Dhimahi- Dee-mah-hee
Then it goes
Dhiyo Yonah Prachodayat
break down
Dhiyo- Dhee-yo (like yo wassup)
Yonah- yo (still like yo wassup)- nah (not like naaaaah, but like nahhhh like if you said ahhhhhh when something feels nice and then added an n infront)
Prachodayat- Pratch-Oh-Die-aaaaht and then hindi speakers would add a little “eh” at the end of aaaaht….just for the mantra.
OKAY! so! sorry that was long, but that is the best i can explain it!!!

and i've never had indian food either. every time i go over to my bff's house, her mom offers me food and i just wimp away and say, "no thank you, i've already eaten."....when in reality, i'm actually starving and i'm afraid i'll be one of those people who tries indian food for the first time and can't handle the spice to the point where i have to get a fire extinguisher to my mouth, so i just say no. I WANNA TRY JUST ONE THING SO I CAN FINALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT IT'S LIKE TO EAT CHICKEN CURRY WITH RICE.
...but i'm a wimp lol vietnamese food isn't as spicy as indian food so i may not be used to the spices haha

OH MY GOD. YOU HAVE TO EAT IT! the spice really isn’t that bad unless you hate spices….but REALLY try it! palak paneer is really not spicy at ALL and neither is chicken tikka masala (if made the more american way) and mmm…..rice is fine (NOT BIRYANI it’s spicy!) and yeah

I don't know what to sing....
So our school musical’s try outs are far away, but I don’t know what i’m going to sing! All I can sing by heart are bollywood songs and indian prayers……I REALLY want to sing a bollywood song, but I don’t think our theatre department would approve.

Ugh, okay. So my good friend just told me this and I was seriously stunned about how mean people can be! I’m so used to Tumblr niceness! Here’s what she told me.
So she was looking at the Rocket Singh music video and she saw someone comment on the video and asked “Is this a Pakistani music video?” and so she decided to be nice and respond to this lost person and said “No, it’s a Hindi movie & music video.”
THEN out of nowhere, this different person says “your a fag it punjabi cant you see the turban”
1. IT’S ‘YOU’RE’ NOT YOUR.
2. “fag” is a terrible word and should not be used at all unless you are talking about a cigarette.
3. IT’S not IT.

5. we all see the turban, irrelevant question.

But, she responded quite nicely…..she said “it’s still a HINDI movie. they’re speaking HINDI not punjabi and it’s made by a hindi film industry and director. the only thing that is punjabi in this whole movie is ranbir’s character. And that’s really not a nice word so keep it to yourself.”
She handled it very nicely….plus she was right. completely.

Gora Weddings...
Okay, so today I went to a gora wedding, they are very good friends of the family and although it was BEAUTIFUL, it was….i don’t know, boring, bland….MISSING SOMETHING!
I mean, desi weddings are ALL colour and all dancing and yelling and singing and i don’t know, just full of life! Most of the time I was sitting down and so were most of the other people.
I don’t know.
Can someone defend gora weddings?
The only gora weddings I know that are almost the same awesomeness as desi weddings are the greek weddings. THOSE are awesome. :)
